Hey woman,
Congrats, you are back in news! You were trending on Twitter and featured in Google trends. And thanks, you made many guys look up dictionary.com to understand what sedition meant. You are really of some use!
Well, I read your statement, and I loved it because it was not a fucking 30,000 words essay! Anyway, I had some reactions, please find them below (in bold and in red, adjectives that you prefer?):
Kashmir, Oct. 26: I write this from Srinagar, Kashmir. (Wonderful, you are going places woman, wished you had cared to write something from Bihar or UP; people are suffering due to neglect and bad politics there too, but wait, stay where you are.) This morning’s papers say that I may be arrested on charges of sedition for what I have said at recent public meetings on Kashmir. (LOL! You read and believe newspapers? But I guess that’s what you do when you wake up in the morning – take up a newspaper and find if your name appears anywhere. If not, you plan how it can.) I said what millions of people here say every day. (Millions of people say benc**d in India every day, that doesn’t sanction that term any “social acceptance”) I said what I, as well as other commentators, have written and said for years. (Absolutely, you have NEVER said or written anything NEW. You just pick up issues, after reading the morning newspapers, and join the bandwagon.) Anybody who cares to read the transcripts of my speeches will see that they were fundamentally a call for justice. (Sorry, I didn’t really care to read the transcript of your speeches. Can you make them a bit shorter? I’ve an attention span problem.) I spoke about justice for the people of Kashmir who live under one of the most brutal military occupations in the world; (Oh, Kashmir is an area under military occupation? Thanks, will update my general knowledge and Wikimapia, but wait, how come you were allowed there? Don’t all democratic rights cease to exist in an area under military occupation? Or were you an “embedded activist” like those embedded journalists of CNN in Iraq during the Gulf War?) for Kashmiri Pandits who live out the tragedy of having been driven out of their homeland; (Really? Or are you fucking kidding me?) for Dalit soldiers killed in Kashmir whose graves I visited on garbage heaps in their villages in Cuddalore; (What the fuck is a “Dalit soldier” with a “grave”? I thought Dalits existed only within Hinduism and Sikhism, where there are no graves. Oh okay, next you are writing a 300,000 essay on why Dalits are neither Hindu/Sikh/Christian/Muslim nor Indian, and why the need justice and liberty from the tyrannous Brahminical Indian state?) for the Indian poor who pay the price of this occupation in material ways and who are now learning to live in the terror of what is becoming a police state. (Oh great, so this whole country is under some kind of occupation – police state – what the fuck, you opened my eyes, where is the red flag?)
Yesterday I traveled to Shopian, the apple-town in South Kashmir which had remained closed for 47 days last year in protest against the brutal rape and murder of Asiya and Nilofer, the young women whose bodies were found in a shallow stream near their homes and whose murderers have still not been brought to justice. (Yes, “last year”, and you are visiting the place “now” because your heart bleeds for a common Kashmiri.) I met Shakeel, who is Nilofer’s husband and Asiya’s brother. (Wait a minute; you were also in Delhi a couple of weeks back. Did you meet any Kashmiri Pandit, for whom you claimed to be seeking justice in the earlier paragraph?) We sat in a circle of people crazed with grief and anger who had lost hope that they would ever get insaf — justice — from India, and now believed that Azadi — freedom — was their only hope. (Have you seen the Bollywood movie Gulaal? You can sit in such circles almost in each part of this country and listen to cries of Azadi from imagined powers. There are Brahmins in this country, whom you think control everything, who feel “trapped” in the modern state that is implementing reservations for everyone except them.) I met young stone pelters who had been shot through their eyes. (Did you meet that Indian policeman who lost his eye after a 5 kg stone hit his eye?) I traveled with a young man who told me how three of his friends, teenagers in Anantnag district, had been taken into custody and had their finger-nails pulled out as punishment for throwing stones. (I once traveled with a Hindu in Ahmedabad, who told me how Muslims had created an “acid pool” in “their area” and used to throw Hindus in them during riots; there have been many riots in Ahmedabad, not just during 2002, for your kind information. Of course I didn’t believe him and went out to write an essay or even a fake news article. I don’t believe people easily and form opinions. If the state can’t be trusted blindly, that doesn’t mean I’d trust every other non-state actor blindly. Oh, non-state actor!)
In the papers some have accused me of giving ‘hate-speeches’, of wanting India to break up. (Yes, there are idiots who take you seriously.) On the contrary, what I say comes from love and pride. (ROFLMAO!) It comes from not wanting people to be killed, raped, imprisoned or have their finger-nails pulled out in order to force them to say they are Indians. (But you are fine and your conscience is not disturbed if someone does the same to people and force them to say that they are NOT Indians?) It comes from wanting to live in a society that is striving to be a just one. (“just” one or “just one”? People like you are surely not going to let this society be “just one”. It would be broken into Dalits, Tribals, Muslims, Brahmins, Christians, Poor, Rich, Women, etc. I want my society and country to be “just one” for god’s sake!) Pity the nation that has to silence its writers for speaking their minds. (Yes, yes, pity the nation that produces such writers. Today I’m proud of Chetan Bhagat, seriously.) Pity the nation that needs to jail those who ask for justice, while communal killers, mass murderers, corporate scamsters, looters, rapists, and those who prey on the poorest of the poor, roam free. (Yes, I’d pity the nation only if you were “actually” jailed, and you won’t be, dear, because this is a country that doesn’t need your pity.)
Very nice point by point reply. Didn’t like the dig on Gujarat’s Muslims though!
You got me wrong then. That was NOT at all any dig at Gujrat’s Muslims. In fact, I wanted to say that there could be people, who might appear “common citizens”, but might NOT speak the truth, just like that Hindu from Ahmedabad. I don’t think there could have been any “acid pool”!
Oh, I read it again and understood what you mean. Sorry!
I feel so relieved that at long last voices of dissent are being raised against these pseudo secularists and self seekers at the cost of national integrity, unity and prestige.Well done! Who will tell this great lady as not to remain mistaken that Kashmir was never a part of India when we all know that the Naaga dynasty of Ancient India had originated there and it was an integral part till Ashokas empire,a great centre of Buddhism, and was a part of Akbar’s emmpire too .Even afterwards circumstances forced Islamization/conversions but it was like any other Indian state which. Joined Indian Union in 1947 with only esp status on account of article 356. Would the same logic work if we say that Pakistan or Bangla Desh had always been India’integral part?-i.e. Should not be considered separated today ?

Dear Mr.Pagal Patrakar,
I am really feeling bad on how you presented the ‘great’ writer Sushree Arundhati Roy. Your words and your comments hurt the core of my heart as I believe you should not be harsh with the people who are unfit. It is the duty of us, the people who have brain in our head not in knees, that we should not take these knee brains seriously and spend so much time on their S**T.
Next time please do something productive
On the serious note:
DUDE YOU ROCK!!!!!!!
An amazing blog post … our country do needs whistle blowers like you ….
This is “patthar ka jawab eent se.” Be sane!
Hi Dear,
I am agree with u. send such king of duffer to Pakistan LOC, so that she can see, what is reality.
basters arundhati roy and gilani are safe but provoking youth to do mischief a and get killed.
ask these baster, how they fell if their kids killed tomorrow then how they feel.
Madam aruthatti roy and tau gilani expel from india.
“India is One” It is just that people are trying to become a Gandhi to their motherland and want freedom for the greed of power.
Dear Patrakar,
Leave Arundhati Roy aside. She doesn’t matter much.
But, what do you have to say about the Kashmir issue?
brilliant.
AWESOME!!!!
i was literally rolling on the floor laughing while going thru ur scarlet comments, Pagal Patrakar ji. a standing ovation to u!!!
Correct response…she is a manipulative cunning woman who is dangerously dumb and with access to media, she can go out there and say crap and get noticed!
What an abuse of free speech..shameless. I am also kind of suspecting dementia in her case…she is loosing her screws year on year!
Brutal Military Occupation??? Has the bitch lost her mind..traitor piece of shit!
Ha! Sitting around in circles..some cunning people put her in a circle and cried around her and she has gotten the delusion that she is their saviour?
Unreal…she needs psychiatric evaluation….
Oh by the way I LOVED YOUR RESPONSE…Clap Clap
Pagal patrakar, i bow to thee.. Its high time these publicity speakers are made to shut up…
Arundhati Roy is like a guy who has never seen the “Far Side” of the moon (Because earthlings can’t see it), and then goes ahead to predict the moon’s geography. I read her mammoth article in Outlook, and simply couldn’t fathom her love for people who weren’t ready to accept the fact that they live in a democratic country where forests are a national resource and not a private property held by forest dwellers. Now since one can only mine minearls from where their ores exist, which sometimes happens to be in private forests (whatever), we can’t stop our industrial growth.
Similarly on the Kashmir issue, what good is “Azadi” ? India became independent in 1947, and yet millions claim they do not feel independent. Kashmir is a troubled state, everybody agrees, but it is a troubled INDIAN state. Look at the “luxuries” pakistanis enjoy.
Even if Kashmir is granted azadi, what will it do with it ?? A country can’t be run by simply the people. You need money, infrastructure, food and a lot of other things. Look at Nepal and the other small neighbouring countries. They can not even protect their own boundaries and their internal political turmoil is beyond repair. If Kasmir is aazad, Pakistan will end up being geographically closer to Delhi and all hell might break loose.
Arundhati Roy could well meet the “atrocious” Indian Army personnel and see what they have to say about their men who happened to be the father of a few, were killed fighting 12 year olds with AK 47, when the central government had specifically ordered them to ensure that nobody in the mob gets killed. She assumes that the death of army guys is no big deal (as they are supposed to die, why else would be a soldier ??), but a misled 12 year old who might not even know what he is fighting for is good for publicity. People dying in terrorist attacks is old news now, no publicity there. Why can’t she speak against Pakistan’s conspiracies ? That is because, they wont care asking their law ministry before shooting her between the eyes.
fantastic summary !
Mujhe lagta hai Arundhati k ander Lord Mountbatten ki wife ki aatma aa gyi hai ….!!!
usney bhi hindustan ko todne k liye bahut kaam kiya h ek din Nehru k pass rehti thi to ek din Jinna k pass … Aishi khaternak aurat k sath wahi kerna chahiye jo ek desh drohi k sath hota h …!!!
Jai Hind !!
I some how think if you see England’s newspaper before 1947 you will find such things ..
.Btw I have only one thing to ask Is it Logical to say that ..’He killed my father …judge ..ohh first go and visit there and see how many fathers are murdered there ”
best part was when u said “thr r some idiots who take u seriously”. we really need bloggers like u 2 silence such traitors. Haramzadi jis mitti mein paida hui hai use hi gaali deti hai, just 2 become famous.
hmm.. an impressive piece of writing but nevertheless I pity the jingoistic overtones.. last i checked India is a democracy and like you Ms roy has the liberty to express her opinions.. I know that an average indian like me wholly disagrees with her.. her call for Dalits to take up arms is incorrect.. her assessment of kashmir issue is also inaccurate and is based on third person accounts and not her first hand knowledge of the matter.. Her booker prize was a while ago and this is the best way for her to drum up some publicity.. all said and done she is an attention starved pseudo intellectual with little to no understanding of the issues..
But here are my two cents : if you start jailing people for such remarks under sedition laws then it sets a wrong precedent.. let suppose 10 years from now we have a corrupt prime minister or finance minister and some one blows the whistle on them in public then these sedition laws are applicable in that scenario as well.. speaking out against a state is a fundamental right enshrined in many democracies all around the globe.. its time Indian democracy follows the suit as well..
This Open Letter to Arundhati Roy (Y R U on Dharti #anagram) has given a new dimension to, what I used to think of PP.
Dude you are getting serious day by day, and I am not faking
On a seperate note only women fake ____, you know wht
ChamatkariBaba
I never understood why everytime when Arundhati Roy opens her mouth , she is always called attention seeker? And what more I never understood is: what’s wrong in seeking attention as long as you are seeking it for good and through words and writing and not via bombs and arson. Indian govt. can spend billions for seeking western attention ,television and film actors can even eat shit for seeking attention , politicians can set the whole cities on fire for seeking attention . But all this just pass as a shrug or smile or mere silence from people. Its only when someone weak , standing alone ,fighting for justice speaks that Indian intelligentsia awakes and throws their smartest and choicest of comments on them. They always say “Give peace a chance” but never understands Peace has to voice(seek attention) itself to be heard.Too good for India that either the kashmiris or the maoists have not yet turned into terrorists.
The point is neither the state or the maoists or the kashmiris are solely right .Injustice has been done by the state , brutality has been done from both the sides. We find it easy to comment on her sitting comfortably in our homes. But she has gone to places , met people and seen the real situations and not the coverage by some television or news paper. http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/news/world/03-the-trickledown-revolution-ss-05 .This might not make sense for the kashmir issue but i just posted it to say that she does make sense . — no offence intended towards anybody’s thought
Will all due respect to your comments, I would like to do a *hi-five* on your face.
LOL!
And I found 1 person, who doesn’t know whether DAWN is a television or newspaper, let alone the types of news it publish and the country of its origin.
You can find numerous baseless allegations against India, on that s*** everyday. And you’re extracting a news from it to prove your point? Shame!
Stinging reply to a woman who invokes freedom of speech to justify her meaningless rants. They should have jailed her long ago, when she made speeches supporting the Maoists. The Maoists are a bunch of egocentric assholes who don’t seem to understand these are not the times of Charu Majumudar anymore. Her latest rant on Kashmir only proves that she doesn’t really know anything intelligent, just disguises her ignorance and total lack of creativity under a thick veil of intelligent sounding words, just like her books. She wasn’t even a good writer to start with, as anyone who managed to stay awake through the first few pages will testify!
I still cant believe we have few guys in their grads who are pro-Arundhati! Not sure if they are astounded wit her beauty or grey hairs…but I hope after reading this article they knew what big MORONS they were!
Arundhati, as it may seem, I guess, is desperate to get into history books or thinking she might bag a Nobel Peace Prize being instrumental as an activist standing for the cause of Naxals n Kashmiris but by acting stupid and irrationally.
Had she been in Middle East or China, for that matter, she would have forgotten her ways of Publicity stunts. Last but not the least, I agree with every red lettered word and absolutely well justified.
Amazing!! .. some one should take her by her hair (left over) and put her on that train to pak
